Vermont A-FrameThe south-east side of this 1970 A-frame had years of intense exposure to both sun and rain. The old single-pane double-hung windows were still solid but needed a lot of attention. Open Sash restored the trim and sills where necessary and applied fresh paint. The window glazing was cleaned up and re-applied as needed. The old storm windows were removed, new seals and glass energy panels installed, and custom screens fabricated.

The White HouseThe historic White House in Calais Vermont’s Kents corner was our most challenging project. This sprawling mansion had undergone multiple renovations and retrofits. The orginal 12/12 lite windows had been altered two or three times before we worked on them. Open Sash prides itself on working with the uncertainties of old windows while still coming in on budget. We give fixed prices on the work we do, so we assume the risk of “surprises”.

Montpelier 1907 Grand VictorianIn the Spring of 2011 Open Sash worked on the Ritz Home in Montpelier. This beautifully maintained 1907 grand victorian had 100 year-old windows, solid old-world crafted , with 8/1 divided lites. We added glass and seals, and insulated the weight cavities on 12 of the windows in this house.

Goddard CollegeGoddard College had historic building designation and needed to preserve the appearance of their 1938 6/6 double hung windows. The bottom windows are new replacements. Open sash retrofitted 64 windows on the second floor. Faculty who use the upstairs offices “love the old windows”.

The Barn/Studio in Charlotte, VermontThis 1970’s barn/studio on the shores of Lake Champlain has modern single pane windows that are upgraded to double glazing at 1/5th the cost of replacement windows. This studio didn’t have storm windows, so the addition of a second layer of glass doubled the r-value of the windows and made a noticeable difference for this wood-heated building.
